The British Virgin Islands Association of Compliance Officers and Practitioners (“BVI ACO”) plays a crucial role within the BVI financial services sector and contributes to its continued success. The Association aims to encourage the development of compliance in the jurisdiction. Its events form part of the worldwide initiative to build a global compliance community while enhancing the reputation of the British Virgin Islands as a highly attractive and well-regulated international financial centre.

Compliance professionals are recognized as the gatekeepers of the BVI, safeguarding the jurisdiction’s reputation and integrity. The BVI ACO underscores the importance of supporting these professionals with the necessary resources, tools, and training to ensure they are fully equipped to meet evolving regulatory challenges. Through this support, the Association strengthens the ability of compliance officers to act as the first line of defense against financial crime, reinforcing the jurisdiction’s global standing.

The BVI ACO strives to keep the compliance community up to date with enacted and upcoming legislation and, through its membership, promotes the importance of compliance across various forums. The Association encourages the sharing of information and exchange of ideas within the industry, as well as with policymakers, while providing opportunities for professional development. Acting as one unified voice, the Association also fosters collaboration and open communication with the Government of the Virgin Islands and regulatory authorities to address emerging risks and shape sound regulatory practices.

The Association is also proud to be a founding member of the Caribbean Regional Compliance Association (CRCA), reflecting its leadership role in strengthening compliance collaboration across the region.

Over the years, the Association has taken the initiative to establish an annual compliance conference, host various workshops, facilitate educational forums, and establish a scholarship award program in honor of one of its founding members.

In addition to compliance initiatives, the Association also embarks on community projects extending to humanitarian needs within the Territory and across the Caribbean region. The BVI ACO believes in a holistic approach to its agenda, ensuring that compliance excellence, community service, and professional development go hand in hand.
